About us

The Sudanese Society of Neurorehabilitation (SSNR) is a non-profit professional and educational body representing Sudanese neurological rehabilitation medicine and spinal cord injuries consultants and specialist registrars practising outside Sudan, as well as physical & and rehabilitation medicine consultants, specialists and registrars practising in Sudan. The SSNR started in August 2021 as an evolution of the former Rehabilitation Medicine Advisory Committee (RMAC), which was originally developed in January 2020 to assist and advise the Sudan Doctors’ Union in UK with the process of establishing the first tertiary neurological rehabilitation centre in Sudan:

“The December Revolution Centre for Rehabilitation of Traumatic Spinal Cord and Brain Injuries”

However, the official inauguration of the SSNR was in January 2022 with the election and structuring of the SSNR Steering Committee with the start of membership registration and collection of membership fees.

Our Mission

Our Mission

​

  • To promote and support professional relationships with medical service providers in Sudan, the Sudanese Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Association, and international neurological and spinal cord injury organisations.

  • To support the neurorehabilitation services in Sudan by organising virtual telemedicine clinics involving professionals and patients.

  • To establish relations and have an active role with the medical colleges in Sudan to further develop and advance neurological rehabilitation services.

  • To assist trainee Sudanese health professionals worldwide in planning their careers through mentorship and professional advice.

  • To organise regular virtual teaching sessions and lectures for Sudanese Rehabilitation Medicine trainees.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in Sudan to run national, regional, and international conferences about neurological and spinal cord injury rehabilitation in Sudan.

  • To collaborate with international health and specialist organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM), International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), and World Neurorehabilitation Congress (WNC), to promote training and education of doctors, and other allied health professionals (nurses, psychologists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists etc.)

Our Vision

To bring together all Sudanese rehabilitation medicine doctors and assist members in developing their careers, participating and coordinating efforts towards the common goal of advancing services provided to neurological rehabilitation and spinal cord injury patients in the home country, Sudan.
